India-ASEAN trade hits $128 billion as pact review talks continue in Delhi

Bilateral trade between India and ASEAN reached $128 billion in 2025-26 as both sides met in New Delhi to review their trade in goods agreement.

Bilateral trade between India and ASEAN reached $128 billion during 2025-26, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said, as the two sides held the 13th ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) Joint Committee meeting at Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi from 6 to 10 July 2026. ASEAN accounts for around 11 per cent of India’s global trade, according to the ministry.

The Joint Committee meeting, held on 7 July 2026 in hybrid format, was co-chaired by Shri Nitin Kumar Yadav, Additional Secretary in India’s Department of Commerce, and Ms. Mastura Ahmad Mustafa, Deputy Secretary General (Trade) at Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry. All ten ASEAN member states — Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam — sent delegations.

Alongside the main meeting, three of the AITIGA Joint Committee’s eight Sub-Committees convened separately: the Sub-Committee on Customs Procedures and Trade Facilitation, the Sub-Committee on National Treatment and Market Access, and the Sub-Committee on Rules of Origin. The ministry described these sessions as a platform to deepen cooperation and advance dialogue between India and ASEAN.

The Joint Committee directed the Sub-Committees to expedite finalisation of the outstanding chapters under the AITIGA Review and set time-bound deliverables aimed at achieving tangible outcomes within agreed timelines.

The ministry said the strong trade figures reflect the depth of the India-ASEAN economic partnership and point to further opportunities to expand trade and investment cooperation between the two sides.
