Volkswagen Trims the Tayron Down: Tayron Life Debuts in India at Rs 41.99 Lakh

Volkswagen has given Indian buyers a cheaper way into its Tayron SUV lineup with the launch of the Tayron Life, priced at Rs 41.99 lakh ex-showroom — about Rs 5 lakh below the range-topping R-Line. The new trim will be built locally at Volkswagen’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility in Maharashtra, competing against the Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.

The biggest practical change is the loss of the third row, making the Tayron Life a five-seater rather than the R-Line’s seven-seat layout. Elsewhere, feature levels stay close to the flagship trim: a 15-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, ventilated and massaging front seats, dual wireless charging pads, a 360-degree camera, nine airbags and Level 2 ADAS all carry over.

On the outside, the Tayron Life skips the R-Line’s sport styling package, so the front grille, wheel arch cladding and rear bumper trim lose their gloss-black finish, and the front bumper has been redesigned with L-shaped grille inserts and a silver trim strip. The slim Matrix LED headlamps, illuminated VW badge and full-width LED light bar remain unchanged front and rear.

Dimensionally, the SUV is 4,792mm long with a 2,789mm wheelbase and sits on 18-inch wheels, one inch down from the R-Line’s. Audio duties shift from an 11-speaker Harman Kardon system to a simpler 8-speaker setup.

Mechanically, nothing changes: the Tayron Life uses the same EA888 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as the R-Line, making 204hp and 320Nm through a 7-speed DCT gearbox and all-wheel drive. Bookings are open online and at dealerships, with deliveries expected to start soon.
