Vivek Aggarwal to serve as FATF Vice-President through June 2027
Vivek Aggarwal has been appointed Vice-President of the Financial Action Task Force for a term running through June 2027.
Shri Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary in India’s Ministry of Culture, has been appointed Vice-President of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for a term running from July 2026 to June 2027, the Ministry of Finance announced. Aggarwal is a 1994-batch Indian Administrative Service officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, and this marks the first time India will hold the FATF Vice-Presidency.
The FATF is the Paris-based inter-governmental body that sets global standards to prevent money laundering, terrorist financing and the financing of proliferation. Its Vice-President is elected by the FATF Plenary from among its members and assists the President in steering the organisation’s work, with the Presidency running on a two-year term.
The Ministry of Finance said the appointment places an Indian official at the apex of the global standard-setting body for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing, reflecting the credibility India has built within the FATF Global Network of more than 200 jurisdictions.
Aggarwal said the appointment was “a recognition of India’s collective effort and of the strength of our anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing framework,” adding that he was honoured to serve and looked forward to working with the FATF Global Network to keep the international financial system safe, inclusive and resilient.
Revenue Secretary Shri Arvind Shrivatsava said the appointment was a proud milestone that reaffirmed India’s continued commitment to strengthening the integrity of the international financial system.
