Zuckerberg broke a three-year silence on X to launch a paid AI model that takes on OpenAI

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has broken a three-year silence on Elon Musk’s platform, X (formerly Twitter), to deliver a major announcement: the company has launched public developer access to its Muse Spark 1.1 AI model.

The rollout transitions Meta away from offering purely free, open-source technology and puts it directly into the paid enterprise market, setting up a fierce commercial battle against dominant rivals Anthropic and OpenAI. Zuckerberg’s return to X served as a “megaphone” for what is probably Meta’s biggest AI launch of the year, with the company pitching the newly upgraded Muse Spark 1.1 as its most capable model for real-world software coding and “agentic” tasks — complex digital operations that an AI can handle autonomously.

“Today we’re releasing Muse Spark 1.1 — a strong agentic and coding model at a very low price. It’s available through our new Meta Model API and in Meta AI,” Zuckerberg wrote on X. He added that the model “is strongest at agentic performance, tool use, and computer use,” performs well on long-running tasks with a 1M token context window, can delegate execution to sub-agents running in parallel, and is trained to use computer interfaces on desktop, mobile or browser.

According to Meta, Muse Spark 1.1 is designed to serve as a framework for “personal superintelligence.” The system can write and debug software code, navigate external applications, analyse text, images and video simultaneously, and execute multi-step logic workflows with very little human supervision.
